Vladimir Khavinson (11/27/1946 – 01/5/2024)
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Retired Colonel of the Medical Service
-
Since 1992, Vladimir Khavinson has been the permanent director of the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, which has the consultative status of the United Nations. Professor V. Khavinson He was the author of more than 1000 scientific articles and monographs, the author of more than 100 patents. Until recently, Professor V. Khavinson was Vice-president of the Gerontological Society at the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the scientific group for the study of peptide regulation of aging at the Ivan Pavlov Institute of Physiology, Chairman and member of the Executive Committee of the European Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. Professor V. Khavinson was the editor of the leading scientific journals "Successes of Gerontology" and "Advances in Gerontology", a member of 15 Russian and foreign societies and editorial boards of scientific journals.
Professor V. Khavinson for the first time developed a new group of geroprotectors consisting of 10 medicinal peptide preparations and more than 40 biologically active food additives and cosmetics, which are registered and manufactured in Russia and in some European countries. Khavinson Peptides® differ from other peptides, primarily in that they can regulate gene activity and protein synthesis in cells. The use of Khavinson Peptides® in experimental studies has increased the average life expectancy by 30-40% and reduced the incidence of cancer by 2-3 times. It has been established that these peptides complementarily interact and bind to certain DNA regions (genes) and thus contribute to enhanced protein synthesis. In clinical studies, the high effectiveness of medicinal peptide preparations in various diseases has been established. Over 35 years, more than 20 million patients have received these peptide drugs.
Professor V. Khavinson and his scientific team have conducted extensive clinical studies on the use of peptide immunomodulators to improve the effectiveness of treatment of patients with COVID-19. The results of these clinical studies have been published in leading international scientific journals such as "Molecules" -2020 (Switzerland), "Stem Cell Reviews and Reports -2021 (USA), etc. The results of long-term studies have proven the effect of Khavinson Peptides® on slowing down the aging process, reducing the incidence of tumors and reducing mortality. The use of Khavinson Peptides® has led to the cure of Alzheimer's disease in experimental animals. These results were published in the journal "Pharmaceuticals" – 2021 (Switzerland), which confirms the priority achievement of Professor V. Khavinson in the field of pharmacogenomics.
Professor Khavinson's brilliant achievement was the concept he created of a single evolutionary epigenetic mechanism for peptidergic regulation of gene expression and protein synthesis in wildlife in 17 species of living organisms (from plants to humans). This concept is the basis for increasing the life resource of the human body and extending the period of its active longevity. Thus, Professor V. Khavinson created a scientific school on the problem of "biogerontology", which holds a leading position in world science.
